Punjab Budget 2026-27: Rs8.4b for Rawalpindi Hospitals, Rs2.2b Dues

The Punjab government has earmarked budgetary allocations for major Rawalpindi government hospitals, nursing colleges, and Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) in the Budget 2026-27. The financial package is set to take effect from July 1 following final approval.

Allocations for Major Hospitals

Under the proposed allocations, the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology has been assigned Rs2.5722 billion. Holy Family Hospital (HFH) receives the largest share among city hospitals with Rs2.8854 billion. Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital (RTH) has been allocated Rs1.1316 billion, while Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBGH) will receive Rs1.8186 billion.

Medical Education and Specialised Centres

For medical education, RMU has been allocated Rs832 million, and the College of Nursing at BBGH will receive Rs92 million. Specialised healthcare centres are also included: the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre, Sihala Murree, gets Rs565.3 million. Outstanding Dues from Previous Year

Despite fresh allocations, three major hospitals—BBGH, HFH, and RTH—collectively face outstanding dues of approximately Rs2.20 billion owed to medical suppliers for medicines, disposables, and gases from the previous fiscal year 2025-26. Suppliers have indicated that continuation of medical supplies for the new fiscal year depends on clearance of pending payments, raising concerns over procurement continuity in the public healthcare system.
