The Punjab government has decided to introduce Juvenile Driving Permits for individuals aged between 16 and 18 years, allowing eligible youth to legally ride motorcycles and scooters under specified conditions.
Permit Conditions and Fees
According to the Traffic Police spokesperson, the permit will only be issued for motorcycles up to 125cc or scooties. An annual fee of Rs500 has been fixed for the juvenile driving permit, the department confirmed.
Application Requirements
Officials said applicants must provide a smart card or B-form, and parental written consent will be mandatory for issuance. The spokesperson added that candidates will be required to pass a traffic signs test and a road test before receiving the permit.
Launch Timeline
The initiative is expected to be launched across the province within the current week.
Safety Regulations
DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir said permit holders must strictly follow safety regulations, including wearing helmets while riding. He further emphasized that motorcycles must be equipped with indicators and side-view mirrors. He added that adherence to traffic signals, speed limits, and road safety rules will be compulsory for all juvenile permit holders.
