Punjab to Replace Fuel Buses with Electric Buses

The Punjab Mass Transit Authority has taken a significant step towards promoting an environmentally friendly transport system by deciding to replace fuel-powered buses with electric buses. According to officials, the bus system managed by the Mass Transit Authority will be transitioned to a modern electric system, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and provide citizens with clean, safe, and modern travel facilities.

Pre-Qualification Process

In this regard, applications have been invited from relevant companies and firms. The pre-qualification process will commence on July 16. According to the conditions, only companies with experience in supplying fully electric buses of 12 meters length are eligible. Additionally, experience in supplying 100% genuine parts, as well as repair and maintenance of electric buses, is mandatory.

Responsibilities of Selected Companies

Under the project, the selected companies will also be responsible for the installation and commissioning of charging stations. Furthermore, they will handle the training of drivers and operational arrangements for the buses. Service areas on the Lahore Ring Road are to be leased as part of the initiative.
