VEHARI – A decision has been made to establish a salt iodization unit at District Jail Vehari, aimed at ensuring the provision of high-quality iodized salt to inmates and preventing diseases related to iodine deficiency.
Meeting on the Initiative
An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Superintendent District Jail Vehari, Aftab Ahmad Bajwa. The meeting was attended by Deputy Director Punjab Food Authority Vehari, Maha Saeed; Provincial Program Manager Nutrition International, Ihtesham-ul-Haq Tariq; and other jail officials.
Government's Commitment to Prisoner Health
The meeting was informed that the Government of Punjab is taking practical steps to improve the health and nutritional standards of prisoners. With the installation of the iodization unit, the supply of standard iodized salt to inmates will be ensured, helping to prevent various health issues caused by iodine deficiency.
On the occasion, Maha Saeed highlighted the initiatives of the Punjab Food Authority for providing safe and nutritious food. Meanwhile, Ihtesham-ul-Haq Tariq stated that iodine deficiency can lead to serious health complications including impaired mental development, goiter, hearing loss, and other disorders, stressing that the use of iodized salt is essential for prevention.
