The District Police Officer (DPO) of Sialkot, Captain (R) Dost Muhammad, has taken proactive steps to protect traffic personnel from the severe heatwave sweeping the region. On Sunday, a police spokesperson confirmed that the DPO distributed umbrellas and water bottles to traffic officers stationed at various intersections and busy roads across the district.
Ceremony at DPO Office
The distribution ceremony was held at the DPO Office, where Captain (Retd.) Dost Muhammad, alongside the Chairman of Air Sial Sialkot, personally handed over the supplies. The initiative aims to ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of traffic personnel, enabling them to perform their duties effectively despite the harsh weather conditions.
Review of Welfare Measures
During the event, a detailed review was conducted regarding the welfare of personnel, the challenges they face on duty, and the facilities currently available to them. Relevant officers were instructed to take further necessary measures to protect personnel from the intense heat and to provide every possible facility for their convenience.
It was reaffirmed that the welfare of police personnel and the provision of a better working environment remain among the institution’s top priorities. The DPO emphasized that the health and efficiency of traffic officers are critical to maintaining smooth traffic flow and public safety.
Context of Extreme Weather
Sialkot, like much of Punjab, has been experiencing soaring temperatures in recent weeks, with heatwaves posing health risks to outdoor workers. Traffic police are particularly vulnerable as they spend long hours directing vehicles at exposed intersections. The distribution of umbrellas and water bottles is a timely intervention to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure uninterrupted service.
This initiative follows similar welfare steps taken by other districts in Punjab, reflecting a broader focus on the well-being of frontline personnel. The DPO’s actions have been widely appreciated by both police staff and the public, highlighting the importance of leadership in addressing practical needs during extreme weather.
