THATTA – Police shot dead a suspect early Friday in an encounter linked to the murder of two constables, while a search continues for two accomplices who escaped, officials said. The suspect was identified as Huzoor Bakhsh alias Rizwan son of Amir Bakhsh Abro. He was killed during an exchange of fire and police recovered the official rifle snatched from the slain officers. The encounter came two days after the attack that claimed the lives of Constable Akbar Ali and Constable Abdul Majeed Mari of Gharo police station.
Attack on Police Picket
According to police, on the evening of June 20 three armed men riding a 125cc motorcycle opened fire on the two constables while they were on duty at Babra Link Road Jam Wah picket. Both officers were martyred on the spot and a case was registered at Gharo Police Station.
Special Investigation Team Formed
Taking strict notice of the incident, SSP Thatta Sajid Ameer Sadozai formed a special team that included SDPO Thatta ASP Abdullah Afzal, SDPO Sujawal DSP Muhammad Ali Damra, SHO Gharo Inspector Shahzad Ilyas and Incharge DIC Thatta Inspector Faisal Shafeeq Memon. Using modern surveillance, intelligence inputs and field expertise, the team traced the suspects to a hideout where the encounter took place. Rizwan was killed and the stolen government weapon was recovered, while two other suspects managed to flee.
Police Vow to Continue Operations
SSP Sadozai said the sacrifices of police personnel would not go in vain and the blood of the martyrs would be accounted for at all costs. He added that Thatta Police would continue operations for the protection of public life and property and for the eradication of crime.
Rewards and Recognition for Team
Sindh IGP Javed Alam Odho announced a Commendation Certificate Class-I and Rs500,000 cash reward for the team. DIGP Hyderabad Range Tariq Razaq Khan Dharejo awarded a Commendation Certificate Class-II, while SSP Thatta also announced appreciation certificates for all team members. Police said search operations are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
