Locust Outbreak Detected in Dnipropetrovsk

Ukraine's state service on food safety and consumer protection announced on Wednesday that outbreaks of locust development have been detected in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region. The service reported that locust numbers currently stand at up to 40 insects per square meter in the affected areas.

Special Regime Introduced

In response to the outbreak, Ukraine has introduced a "special regime" in the affected area to monitor and control the locust population. The measure aims to prevent further spread and protect agricultural crops.

Threat to Crops

The locust outbreak poses a significant threat to sunflower and other crops in the region. In 2025, a massive locust invasion threatened sunflower and other crops in Ukraine's southern regions, highlighting the recurring nature of this agricultural pest.
