FBR Anti-Tobacco Drive Wins Praise as Operations Disrupt Illegal Trade

The Federal Board of Revenue's enforcement drive against the illicit tobacco trade has drawn widespread appreciation, as ongoing operations continue to disrupt illegal manufacturing and distribution networks across the country.

Progress Against Illicit Trade

Over the past year, FBR teams have sealed illegal manufacturing units, seized illicit stocks, and confiscated raw materials, making measurable progress against a trade that accounts for more than 50 per cent of total cigarette sales and costs the national exchequer an estimated Rs300 billion annually.

Coordinated Approach

Unlike previous efforts, which were often isolated and short-lived, the current campaign reflects a more coordinated approach. Legislative reforms extending enforcement powers to provincial governments have further amplified its impact, with provincial authorities now conducting retail-level operations across key distribution hubs.
