The Government of Pakistan has announced a reduction in fuel prices, bringing relief to consumers ahead of the new year. As per the latest notification, the price of petrol has been decreased by Rs4 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs2 per litre. The new prices will be effective from January 1, 2025.
Revised Fuel Prices
Following the price cut, petrol will now be available at Rs255 per litre, down from the previous Rs259 per litre. Similarly, high-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs261 per litre to Rs259 per litre. The reduction is attributed to a decrease in international crude oil prices and favorable exchange rate movements.
Impact on Consumers
The price cut is expected to lower transportation costs and ease inflationary pressures. The government aims to provide relief to the common man, especially amid rising living costs. The reduction in diesel prices will particularly benefit the agriculture and transport sectors, which rely heavily on this fuel.
Analysts believe that the reduction in fuel prices may help stabilize the economy by reducing the cost of goods and services. However, the impact on inflation will depend on the global oil market trends in the coming weeks.
The government has also assured that it will continue to monitor international prices and adjust domestic rates accordingly to ensure affordability for the public.
