Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development signed an agreement with Kenya’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection to regulate the recruitment of domestic workers from Kenya to the Kingdom. The agreement was signed in Riyadh by Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for Labor Abdullah Abuthnain and Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua.
Signing Ceremony and Attendees
The ceremony, hosted by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi. The event took place on the sidelines of the inaugural meeting of the Saudi-Kenyan Political Consultations Committee.
Framework and Objectives
The agreement establishes a framework for the regulated recruitment of domestic workers from Kenya while safeguarding the rights of both employers and workers and strengthening the contractual relationship between them. It also aims to enhance bilateral cooperation and modernize the recruitment framework between Saudi Arabia and Kenya.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the agreement underscores the commitment of both nations to ensure fair and transparent recruitment processes. Vice Minister Abuthnain stated that the agreement reflects Saudi Arabia’s efforts to improve labor market regulations and protect all parties involved. Cabinet Secretary Mutua emphasized that the pact will provide Kenyan workers with better protections and opportunities in the Kingdom.
