The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has transferred four confiscated properties valued at Rs348 million to the Directorate General of Estate, Ministry of Housing and Works, officials confirmed on Monday. The properties were seized from Abdul Aziz, a former member of the National Assembly, and his wife following a corruption conviction.
Case Background and Verdict
According to a NAB spokesperson, the case involved corruption and assets beyond known sources of income. After an inquiry, NAB filed a reference against the accused in an accountability court in Karachi. On June 28, 2002, the court sentenced both individuals to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs1 million each. The court also ordered the confiscation of four properties owned by the convicts.
Appeals Dismissed
The convicted individuals challenged the verdict in the Sindh High Court and later in the Supreme Court, but both appeals were dismissed. Subsequently, NAB Karachi took possession of the confiscated assets.
Properties Handed Over
The properties include a residential house in DHA Phase V Extension and three plots located in KDA Scheme A-1 Extension and Hawke's Bay Scheme 42 under the Lyari Development Authority. A formal ceremony was held at NAB Karachi on July 6, 2026, where DG NAB Karachi Shakeel Ahmed Durrani handed over possession to DG Estate Obaiduddin.
NAB's Commitment
Speaking at the ceremony, Durrani reiterated NAB's commitment to recovering looted assets and returning them to affected departments and individuals. He added that under the leadership of NAB Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed, the bureau remains actively engaged in combating corruption with professionalism and dedication. He said such measures reflect NAB's resolve to ensure accountability of corrupt elements and recovery of public funds for the benefit of the state and citizens.
