ISLAMABAD – Power distribution companies (DISCOs) across Pakistan have introduced a redesigned and simplified electricity bill format, aiming to ease consumer understanding by removing unnecessary complexity. The move is part of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division)’s consumer-centric reform agenda.
Rollout of New Bill Format
Currently, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) have started printing electricity bills in the new format. The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) will begin printing the new format from next Monday, according to a spokesman for the Power Division on Wednesday.
The spokesman added that the remaining DISCOs are in the process of procurement and will start printing the new format upon completion of the process.
Consumer-Centric Reforms
The new bill format has been developed with a clear focus on simplicity, readability, and an improved consumer experience. It presents key billing information in a structured and accessible manner, allowing consumers to quickly understand their electricity consumption, billing components, and payment obligations without navigating unnecessary complexity.
The initiative was driven by feedback from consumers and stakeholders over the years. The ministry received numerous complaints and observations regarding the previous bill format, which many consumers found difficult to understand due to its overcrowded layout, excessive information, and complex presentation. The inclusion of multiple technical details, repetitive content, and non-essential information often made it challenging for consumers to quickly identify and comprehend key billing data.
Enhancements in the Redesigned Bill
The redesigned electricity bill incorporates several enhancements aimed at improving the consumer experience:
- Simplified and uncluttered design that enhances readability.
- Billing amounts, due dates, and consumption details presented clearly and prominently.
- Better organized information to allow consumers to grasp their bill at a glance.
- Reduced visual complexity to ensure the format is accessible to individuals from all backgrounds.
- Integration of QR codes, enabling consumers to access supplementary information and digital services conveniently.
The ministry remains committed to pursuing reforms that enhance transparency, efficiency, and consumer satisfaction across Pakistan’s power sector, the spokesman maintained.
