Rs 2 Billion Allocated for Margalla Avenue Link Road to M-1
Rs 2 Billion for Margalla Avenue Link Road to M-1

The federal government has allocated Rs 2 billion for the Margalla Avenue Link Road to M-1 in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2026-27. This strategic 5.2 km, six-lane extension project will connect the western terminus of Margalla Avenue (Sangjani/N-5 GT Road) to the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1).

Project Details

The link road is designed to provide a signal-free corridor and bypass heavy inner-city traffic. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is developing the initial 2.7 km portion, while the Punjab Government and the National Highway Authority (NHA) are constructing the extension from the interchange to the motorway, near the AWT Housing Society.

Benefits for Commuters

The route will offer an alternate entry and exit for commuters traveling between Islamabad and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, easing pressure on major corridors like the Kashmir Highway and 9th Avenue. It will also alleviate heavy traffic loads on the GT Road (N-5).
