The district administration of Lahore has ramped up its enforcement actions against price gouging, conducting thorough checks on food item prices across various markets. These operations were initiated under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz.
Market Inspections and Fines Imposed
Assistant Commissioner Sadar, Dr. Abid Mumtaz Khan, personally visited multiple markets within Tehsil Sadar to verify that food items were being sold at official rates. During these inspections, several shopkeepers were found violating the fixed prices, leading to legal action. A total fine of Rs 40,000 was imposed on the offenders.
Administration's Stance on Overpricing
According to the district administration, indiscriminate legal proceedings will continue against those involved in overcharging and artificial price hikes. The authorities have emphasized that prices are being monitored continuously to provide relief to consumers and ensure the availability of essential commodities. A clear directive was issued that no negligence or irregularity in the quality or weight of food items will be tolerated.
Commitment to Fair Pricing
The administration stated that all possible measures are being taken to protect public interest and deliver goods at fair prices. In his statement, DC Lahore reiterated that eliminating overpricing is a top priority for the district administration, and implementation of official rates will be ensured at all costs. He directed concerned officers to maintain regular market monitoring and take strict action against violators.
