The 20-day wedding season across Rawalpindi, Islamabad and the division will conclude on Monday, June 15, ahead of the beginning of Muharram. This year's wedding season was badly affected by record inflation, an increase of Rs0.5 million to Rs0.7 million in the overall cost of wedding functions and food, and energy-saving schedules.
Decline in Bookings
Normal bookings for weddings and receptions were not recorded at the 7,943 marriage halls and marquees across the twin cities and Rawalpindi Division. Bookings at marriage halls and marquees declined by 45 to 48 per cent. Many families opted for small hotels in neighbourhoods or arranged weddings under tents in streets instead of booking large marquees.
Unused Decorations
As a result, the decorative arrangements made by major marriage halls, including beautification, colourful flags, lighting, and ornaments, largely went unused. Families preferred simplicity and ordinary lighting over elaborate decorations and beautification.
Impact on Catering Sector
The food catering sector also remained completely down during the season.
