Weekly Inflation in Pakistan Rises by 0.46%: PBS

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.46 percent during the week ending June 18, 2026, for the combined consumption group, as reported by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

SPI Data Highlights

According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review rose to 357.76 points, compared to 356.11 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 15.28 percent. The weekly SPI, with a base year of 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

Inflation by Consumption Group

The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs17,732) increased by 0.64 percent to 339.41 points from 337.25 points. For the consumption groups of Rs17,733–22,888; Rs22,889–29,517; Rs29,518–44,175; and above Rs44,175, the SPI increased by 0.61 percent, 0.53 percent, 0.51 percent, and 0.39 percent, respectively.

Price Movements of Essential Items

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 25 items (49.02 percent) increased, 11 items (21.57 percent) decreased, while 15 items (29.41 percent) remained stable. On a week-on-week basis, the items that witnessed a decline in prices included onions, which fell by 2.98 percent, followed by garlic (2.51 percent), bananas (1.28 percent), petrol (1.06 percent), pulse mash (1.04 percent), salt powder (0.95 percent), pulse moong (0.61 percent), wheat flour (0.53 percent), diesel (0.51 percent), and pulse gram (0.04 percent).

On the other hand, major increases were observed in the prices of tomatoes, which rose by 16.65 percent, followed by potatoes (6.82 percent), chicken (5.60 percent), washing soap (1.16 percent), gur (0.65 percent), mutton and LPG (0.51 percent each), shirting (0.48 percent), long cloth (0.43 percent), eggs (0.35 percent), milk fresh (0.29 percent), and curd (0.26 percent).

Year-on-Year Comparison

On a year-on-year basis, prices of potatoes declined by 41.09 percent, followed by eggs (26.98 percent), pulse gram (22.32 percent), sugar (17.51 percent), salt powder (14.09 percent), pulse masoor (12.25 percent), pulse moong (5.48 percent), and chicken (4.24 percent) compared to the same period last year. Major increases were recorded in the prices of onions by 79.76 percent, followed by tomatoes (68.59 percent), electricity charges for Q1 (59.40 percent), wheat flour (58.72 percent), LPG (52.66 percent), petrol (44.73 percent), diesel (44.39 percent), mutton (16.30 percent), chilies powder (15.20 percent), beef (12.86 percent), garlic (10.74 percent), and bread (8.67 percent).
