The Islamabad Traffic Police has transitioned its driving licence issuance process to a completely paperless system, aiming to boost operational efficiency and public convenience. Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi officially launched the system and inspected newly established digital counters, providing directives for smooth implementation.
Key Features of the New System
According to the Inspector General, the initiative is designed to save citizens' time and simplify procedures. Previously, applicants had to submit multiple documents, including medical forms and photographs. Under the new system, citizens are no longer required to bring any documents, photocopies, or photographs. From medical assessment to licence issuance, the entire process has been digitised.
The licence fee payment system will also be digitised shortly. “Now citizens only need to bring their computerized national identity cards to obtain their licences,” he stated.
Related Developments in Sindh
Separately, the Sindh government has introduced mandatory pre-licence driving training for applicants earlier this year. The decision was approved during a meeting of the Public-Private Partnership Policy Board chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2025, pre-licensing training is now compulsory for Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) and Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) applicants. Licensing authorities are required to process applications only after certified training from recognised institutions.
