Lahore Traffic Police Crack Down on Vehicles Without QR Panic Buttons

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore has ordered a targeted crackdown against public transport vehicles, rickshaws, and online cab services that fail to install QR panic buttons. The action, set to commence after Youm-e-Ashura, aims to ensure public safety and compliance with legal requirements, according to a statement issued on Saturday.

Strict Action Post-Ashura

The CTO stated that public transport vehicles, online taxis, and rickshaws operating without QR panic buttons would face strict action following Youm-e-Ashura. The decision is part of a broader effort to strengthen public transport safety standards and enhance commuter protection through modern security measures.

Deployment of Dedicated Teams

Dedicated teams have been deployed in every traffic sector of the city to facilitate the installation of QR panic buttons. Additionally, 12 separate teams have been assigned specifically for rickshaws to ensure widespread compliance. The CTO also announced that four new licensing centres have been established at the request of various rickshaw unions to provide greater convenience to drivers.

Meetings with Stakeholders

Several meetings were held with representatives of online taxi companies and rickshaw unions to ensure the implementation of the QR panic button initiative and other safety measures. The CTO warned that action would also be taken against online vehicles that fail to adopt mandatory safety and security features.

Advanced Tracking Systems

The installation of advanced tracking systems in online cabs will further improve monitoring of both passengers and drivers, the CTO emphasized. He highlighted the importance of technology-driven solutions, stating that citizens would be provided with safer, more reliable, and higher-quality transport services through the use of modern technology.

Impact on Traffic Discipline

The CTO added that such initiatives would significantly improve traffic discipline and public safety across the city. The crackdown underscores the traffic police's commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced security and compliance.
