Multan Approves 40-Year WASA Master Plan for Sewerage

MULTAN - Commissioner Multan Division Amir Karim Khan chaired an important meeting on Friday to review the proposed 40-year comprehensive master plan of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) aimed at addressing the city’s future sewerage and water supply requirements.

Meeting Highlights

The meeting examined the needs of areas not covered under the ongoing Rs 25 billion Public Development Programme (PDP) project and discussed a long-term strategy for extending basic water and sanitation facilities to underserved localities.

Infrastructure Improvements

Participants reviewed detailed proposals for improving the city’s sewerage and water supply infrastructure, including the replacement of aging sewerage and water distribution networks and the provision of essential services to areas currently lacking such facilities.

The meeting also considered the establishment of modern wastewater treatment plants to reduce environmental pollution and ensure the safe and efficient disposal of wastewater.

Commissioner's Remarks

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Amir Karim Khan said that the master plan had been prepared keeping in view the city’s projected needs for the next 40 years. He emphasized that sustainable urban development and future requirements would remain key considerations in infrastructure planning.

He said the Punjab government was committed to providing citizens with improved sewerage services and access to clean drinking water, adding that the comprehensive plan would help pave the way for lasting solutions to Multan’s urban challenges.

Next Steps

The meeting agreed on phased planning for infrastructure improvement and decided to finalize the proposals before submitting them to the Punjab government for approval.

Deputy Commissioner Naoman Siddique, Director Development Mubashar Rehman, Managing Director WASA and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
