PIA Initiates Pre-Hajj Flight Operations for 2026 Pilgrimage Season
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially launched its pre-Hajj flight operations, marking the beginning of the airline's extensive transportation efforts for this year's pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The national carrier announced the commencement of these special flights in a detailed statement released on Sunday, highlighting its commitment to serving Hajj pilgrims with utmost care and efficiency.
First Flight Departs from Sialkot to Madinah
The inaugural pre-Hajj flight, designated as PK-747, departed from Sialkot International Airport at 1:55 a.m. on Saturday night, carrying 390 pilgrims bound for Madinah. This flight represents the first of many that will transport Pakistani pilgrims to the holy cities of Saudi Arabia in preparation for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Pakistan's pre-Hajj flight operations to the Kingdom actually began on Saturday, with the first flight under Saudi Arabia's Makkah Route Initiative departing from Lahore. This coordinated effort between Pakistani and Saudi authorities demonstrates the international cooperation that facilitates the smooth execution of the pilgrimage.
Comprehensive Arrangements for Pilgrim Services
The airline has confirmed that all necessary arrangements for serving Hajj pilgrims have been completed. According to PIA's statement, the Chief Executive Officer has issued specific instructions to all operational teams to ensure that no negligence occurs in serving the pilgrims throughout their journey.
"All necessary arrangements for serving the pilgrims have been completed, and the CEO of PIA has issued instructions to all teams to ensure that no negligence occurs in serving Hajj pilgrims," the airline emphasized in its official communication.
Additional Flights and Operational Details
Another PIA flight, PK-4003, is scheduled to depart from Faisalabad to Madinah at 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, carrying more than 150 pilgrims. This demonstrates the airline's commitment to providing transportation options from multiple cities across Pakistan.
PIA has announced ambitious plans to transport more than 55,000 Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia this year through 191 dedicated flights. Of these passengers, approximately 49,000 will be transported via the government's official Hajj scheme, while the remaining 6,000 will travel through private tour operators who have partnered with the national carrier.
Multi-City Flight Operations
The airline will operate direct flights from seven major Pakistani cities as part of its Hajj operation:
- Islamabad
- Karachi
- Lahore
- Multan
- Faisalabad
- Sialkot
- Quetta
From Islamabad alone, PIA will transport more than 15,400 pilgrims via 46 dedicated flights. Karachi will see over 15,000 pilgrims traveling through 55 flights, while Lahore will send 12,377 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia as part of the pre-Hajj flight operation.
Operational Timeline and Pilgrim Quota
The pre-Hajj operation is scheduled to conclude on May 21, according to the airline's announcement. This extended operational period allows for the systematic transportation of thousands of pilgrims while maintaining service quality and safety standards.
Saudi Arabia has allocated Pakistan a quota of over 179,000 pilgrims for this year's Hajj pilgrimage. The Pakistani government, in coordination with Saudi authorities, has vowed to ensure the best possible facilities for all Hajj pilgrims throughout their spiritual journey.
The successful launch of PIA's pre-Hajj operations represents a significant logistical achievement for Pakistan's national carrier and demonstrates the country's commitment to facilitating religious pilgrimage for its citizens. As the operation continues through May, thousands more Pakistani pilgrims will embark on their spiritual journey to the holy sites of Islam.
