Qatar World Cup photos on display in Mexico City exhibition

Photographs capturing the human stories behind the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar have traveled to Mexico City, where they are being displayed as part of an exhibition linking the tournament's legacy with the current World Cup.

Exhibition details

A selection of images from "After the Game," one of the headline exhibitions at the third edition of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar in 2025, has been included in "Journeys to Greatness: Qatar 2022 Legacy." Presented by the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum in partnership with Mexico's Ministry of Culture through the Centro de Cultura Digital, the exhibition is part of the Qatar-Canada-Mexico 2026 Year of Culture.

Blending photography, multimedia installations and sporting memorabilia, the exhibition explores the effects of the previous World Cup beyond football, focusing on the people, cultures and communities brought together by the tournament.

Photographic sections

The Tasweer photographs appear throughout the exhibition in sections including "Look of the Game," "Matches and Players" and "Unity in Diversity." Rather than documenting the action on the pitch, the images highlight fan celebrations, cultural exchanges and everyday encounters.

Quotes from organizers

"The legacy of Qatar 2022 belongs not only to the players and the matches, but also to the fans who brought the tournament to life," said Abdulla Al-Mulla, director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, noting that the exhibition reflects how the tournament continues to foster connections across borders.

Khalifa Al-Obaidli, director of Tasweer Photo Festival, said: "Photography has a unique ability to preserve emotion. The works first shown in 'After the Game' capture the experiences, encounters and shared humanity that made Qatar 2022 such a transformative milestone."

Practical information

The exhibition runs at Mexico City's Centro de Cultura Digital until Aug. 9.
