Saudi designer Nora Al-Shaikh has introduced a new line of modest fanwear for women, debuting a custom dress at a recent Al-Nassr FC home game in Riyadh. The design offers a fresh take on matchday style, blending modest silhouettes with subtle club signifiers in a way that feels contemporary and culturally grounded.

Inspiration from the stands

Al-Shaikh told Arab News that the idea came from a realization while watching a game. 'I noticed many women in the stands, passionate and engaged, but they didn't have fanwear like the men. Many were adapting existing jerseys, layering or modifying, but nothing was designed intentionally for them. The issue wasn't participation; it was representation.'

Design process

The designer focused on creating something that reflects the diversity of Saudi women's style. 'I approached the design knowing that Saudi women aren't a single uniform group. There are different ways of dressing and expressing identity. I drew from Al-Nassr's jersey elements and color palette, reinterpreting them into a silhouette that feels aligned with how women already dress.'

Partnership with Adidas

Al-Shaikh partnered with Al-Nassr FC sponsor Adidas to bring the vision to life. 'As soon as I recognized the gap, I sought a sportswear partner connected to Al-Nassr. Adidas was incredibly supportive, understanding that this wasn't about creating a product but about making Saudi women fans feel represented.'

Debut and impact

The dress made its debut during a high-profile match between Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli Saudi on April 29. 'It means so much to see women finally have something that expresses their fandom. They have always been part of the atmosphere, and now there's something that reflects that.'

Future vision

Al-Shaikh hopes global brands take note. 'Women are present and deeply connected to the game. It's not about adapting existing products but creating with intention based on how women actually show up. More than anything, it's about listening and designing with that reality in mind.'
