Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift have added Emmy nominations to their award-season campaigns, earning nods at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in separate variety categories. The nominations were announced on July 8 by actors Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller.
Bad Bunny's First Emmy Nomination
Bad Bunny received his first Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for his history-making Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show. The performance, which celebrated Puerto Rican culture and featured a predominantly Spanish-language set, is nominated alongside the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, the 68th Grammy Awards, the 78th Tony Awards, and The Oscars.
The nomination caps another landmark year for the Puerto Rican superstar. His Super Bowl performance became the first halftime show headlined by a Latino solo artist and generated record-breaking global viewership, despite drawing criticism from some conservative commentators ahead of the broadcast.
Taylor Swift's Nomination for Eras Tour Film
Taylor Swift received a nomination in Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-recorded) for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, the filmed version of the final performance of her record-breaking Eras Tour. The concert special will compete against productions including Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable, The Muppet Show, Nikki Glaser: Good Girl, and Wicked: One Wonderful Night.
Swift's nomination adds to an already remarkable year that has included the conclusion of the Eras Tour and continued success across music and film. The concert film captures the final stop of the global tour, which became one of the highest-grossing concert tours in history.
Emmy Awards Ceremony Details
This year's Emmy Awards will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay, who becomes the first woman to host the ceremony in 15 years. The awards will take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Most Nominated Programs
Beyond the music stars' nominations, medical drama The Pitt led all programs with 25 nominations, while Hacks followed with 24, making them the most recognized television productions of this year's awards.
For both Bad Bunny and Swift, the Emmy nods further expand their already impressive awards résumés, highlighting their ability to transcend music and make an impact on live television and concert filmmaking alike.
