Camel's eyes gouged out in dispute, owner seeks justice

HYDERABAD: A district renowned for its peaceful residents and lower crime rate compared to the rest of the province has been rocked by a shocking act of animal cruelty, where a camel's eyes were allegedly gouged out during a dispute between locals. The incident occurred on Monday night in Bhagal Rind village, where the camel's owner, Sarang Meghwar, accused several men of taking the animal, tying its legs, and brutally removing its eyes.

"Hamza, Mukhtiar, and others took my camel, tied its feet, and gouged out its eyes," a distressed Sarang told reporters on Tuesday. Accompanied by male and female family members during a protest outside the Chhachhro Press Club, Sarang claimed the accused had been pressuring him to compensate them for the death of a donkey and a goat.

According to the family, the camel was their sole remaining source of income. "My house caught fire, and all my belongings were burnt. This camel was my only asset, helping me earn a livelihood for my family," Sarang said. Family member Neelo stated that the accused told them they would have to compensate for the donkey and goat before any compensation could be discussed for the injured camel. "We are poor. Now we do not have anything to arrange two meals a day," she said, alleging that the accused are influential individuals employed in government service.

Another relative, Teekam Meghwar, said the suspects forcibly took the camel on Monday night before subjecting it to the attack. The family appealed to authorities for a transparent investigation and justice, alleging they had also received threats for pursuing the case. Police stated that a team had been dispatched to arrest the accused; however, no FIR had been registered until Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG Mirpurkhas.
