Stray dogs have become a pressing issue that seriously affects public well-being and threatens public safety. They not only create safety hazards, often chasing vehicles or attacking people, but also pose serious health risks, particularly the threat of rabies.
Fatal Dog Attack in Vehari
According to a news report, an eight-year-old boy lost his life after being attacked by a pack of dogs in a village in Vehari district. Such incidents highlight the grave danger posed by stray animals.
Constant Fear in Communities
Children walking to school, women travelling to work, and elderly people on their morning walks all live in constant fear of these dogs. Every year, millions of children fall victim to dog bites.
Recent Attacks in Shakargarh
Recently, a pack of stray dogs injured a senior citizen, Muhammad Siddique, and a child, Ehsan Ali, in Kanjoor village in Shakargarh tehsil. In the same village, stray dogs allegedly attacked and killed five goats and injured a buffalo.
Root Cause: Poor Sanitation
The main reason for the growing population of stray dogs is poor sanitation. Residents of the area have repeatedly requested the health department and district administration to address the issue, but to no avail.
Call for Collaborative Action
To solve this problem, local authorities, the health department, and the public must work together. Stray dog populations must be controlled, and better sanitation standards must be ensured.
