A programme to mark “World Ocean Day” was held at an Auditorium of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Karachi on Monday. The event was organized by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO). Federal Secretary for Science and Technology Shahid Iqbal Baloch was the Chief Guest of the programme.
Key Highlights of the Event
While addressing the event, Shahid Iqbal Baloch emphasized that the protection of oceans is a shared responsibility of all. He stated that clean oceans and the protection of marine biodiversity are vital for future generations. He highlighted that marine life is facing serious threats from marine pollution and climate change.
Waste Management and Mangrove Plantation
Shahid Iqbal Baloch said that the waste management system is being further strengthened to eliminate pollution. He noted that oceans are not merely ecosystems but also the foundation of life. He further remarked that large-scale mangrove plantation plays a key role in environmental restoration.
He also pointed out that developing countries face challenges such as coastal hazards and limited financial resources. He emphasized the need to accelerate efforts for the protection of marine biodiversity and oceans.
In addition, a hot and dry weather forecast was issued for Sindh.
