Shangla - Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and hailstorms swept across various parts of Shangla district, significantly altering weather conditions and raising concerns about possible flash floods, landslides, and disruptions to transportation in the mountainous region.
Weather Impact on Shangla
According to local reports, most areas of Shangla experienced strong gusty winds, thunderstorms, and torrential rainfall, while hailstorms were recorded in several upper mountainous localities. The downpour brought a welcome drop in temperatures, making the weather pleasant throughout the valley and providing relief from recent warm conditions.
Residents and tourists visiting scenic locations across the district were seen enjoying the cool and refreshing weather. The rain-soaked mountains, lush green landscapes, and chilly winds attracted visitors to several tourist destinations, where people took advantage of the pleasant conditions despite warnings of adverse weather.
However, the heavy rainfall also triggered minor landslides and incidents of debris falling from hillsides at various locations. Traffic movement was affected on several roads, including the Alpurai–Khwazakhela Road and the Bisham–Alpurai Main Highway, where falling rocks and mudslides created difficulties for commuters and transporters.
Although traffic flow remained largely uninterrupted due to the timely efforts of the concerned authorities, travellers faced delays and were advised to exercise caution while driving on mountainous routes vulnerable to landslides and slippery conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the ongoing spell of rain is being caused by a weather system associated with westerly winds affecting various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The department has forecast further rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms in Shangla and other upper parts of the province over the coming days.
Meteorological officials warned that intense rainfall could lead to flash flooding in local streams and seasonal nullahs, while landslides may pose serious risks in hilly and mountainous areas. The department also cautioned that roads could become blocked due to falling rocks and mudslides, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.
The Provincial PDMA has issued alerts to district administrations, rescue services, and other relevant departments in view of the prevailing weather conditions. Authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation arising from severe weather.
According to the PDMA, water levels in streams, rivers, and seasonal waterways could rise suddenly during heavy downpours, increasing the risk of flash floods in vulnerable areas. The authority emphasized the importance of precautionary measures and urged residents to stay informed about weather developments through official channels.
The PDMA has also appealed to the public, particularly those living near streams, rivers, and landslide-prone areas, to strictly follow safety advisories and immediately contact emergency services in the event of any untoward incident.
Rescue Preparedness
Meanwhile, in view of the increasing threat of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides across the district, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Shangla, Engineer Malik Sherdil Khan, has placed all rescue teams on high alert and directed emergency personnel to remain fully prepared to respond to any untoward situation.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, emergency stations in Alpurai, Bisham, Puran, and Chakesar have been instructed to ensure the availability of trained personnel, rescue machinery, ambulances, and relief equipment to effectively tackle any emergency arising from adverse weather conditions.
