Dr Mahnoor, Acid Attack Victim, Receives Treatment in Karachi
KARACHI: Dr Mahnoor, the lady doctor who was subjected to a horrific acid attack at Civil Hospital Quetta, is currently receiving specialized medical care at a private hospital in Karachi. According to hospital sources, she underwent a comprehensive medical examination at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKU) on Sunday. She was airlifted to Karachi via air ambulance following the attack that occurred on June 5.
Although AKU hospital has not released an official medical bulletin, sources indicate that approximately 13 per cent of her body has suffered acid burns. The injuries include burns on her face, abdomen, thighs, and right hand. A multidisciplinary medical team, including plastic surgeons and eye specialists, has completed initial evaluations. Both of her eyes were affected in the attack; however, doctors have confirmed that her eyesight remains intact. Dr Mahnoor has been moved to the Special Care Unit, where she remains under close observation. A follow-up medical assessment is scheduled after 24 hours. Hospital sources describe her overall condition as satisfactory.
On the directives of Faryal Talpur, Sindh government spokesperson and Sindh Assembly member Saadia Javed visited the hospital to inquire about Dr Mahnoor's health. Saadia conveyed best wishes for her swift recovery and expressed solidarity and support on behalf of Faryal Talpur.
Separately, a young man who attempted to rescue Dr Mahnoor during the attack was also injured and is receiving treatment in Quetta. The Balochistan chief minister contacted him to inquire about his condition and appreciated his bravery. Police officials further stated that the suspect allegedly involved in the attack was killed last night in an encounter conducted by police. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the motive behind the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
