Inauguration of Upgraded Cardiac Centre at PIMS
Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday inaugurated Phase-I of the upgraded Cardiac Centre at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. The event also marked the launch of a Patient Facilitation Assistant Service in the hospital's emergency department.
Details of the Rs7.2 Billion Cardiac Facility
According to the minister, the cardiac facility, valued at Rs7.2 billion, has been further supported by an additional investment of Rs900 million. This upgraded centre includes Pakistan's first advanced cardiac machine and will provide free treatment for heart patients.
Focus on Primary Healthcare
Kamal emphasized that strengthening primary healthcare and revitalizing 28 Basic Health Units in Islamabad are key to reducing the burden on tertiary hospitals. He called for stronger local governments, improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and a greater focus on disease prevention and immunization to build a more resilient healthcare system.
In a separate incident, a teenage girl was shot dead over refusal to marry, prompting a police manhunt.
