In a decisive crackdown against the food fraud mafia, enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), led by Director General Syed Musa Raza, executed a major operation near Moulanwal Rohi Nullah in Lahore. The operation targeted three units involved in the unlawful production of oil from animal offal and fat. An FIR was registered against the accused, and three suspects were arrested on the spot.
Seizure of Illegal Products
Food safety teams discarded 17,400 litres of oil and 7,000 kilograms of animal offal and fat that were being used as raw materials for the illegal production process. Investigations revealed that the suspects were manufacturing oil in blatant violation of food safety laws and regulations. Mandatory records concerning the supply of oil derived from animal fat to biodiesel companies were not available during the inspection.
Lack of Documentation
DG PFA Syed Musa Raza stated that the teams further observed that the operators failed to provide agreements with any soap manufacturing companies, despite legal requirements governing the use of such materials. Essential traceability records and other mandatory documentation were also missing from the premises, leading to strict enforcement action.
Commitment to Public Health
Raza emphasized that operations against the production and distribution of substandard oil derived from unhealthy animal fat are continuing across Punjab. He reiterated that the PFA remains committed to ensuring the provision of safe and quality food through regular inspections and strict enforcement measures. He further clarified that oil extracted from animal fat is only permitted for use by biodiesel companies in accordance with applicable regulations. The food fraud mafia deserves no leniency, and stringent legal action will continue against all those involved in activities that endanger public health.
