KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho on Wednesday inaugurated a modern gynaecology operation theatre (OT) block at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and announced that ICU services at the facility will soon become operational. The activation of the new OT block is expected to significantly improve timely access to surgical care for patients, particularly in emergency cases, the minister stated while addressing the media after the inauguration.

Enhanced Medical Equipment and Facilities

Dr Pechuho highlighted that modern medical equipment has been installed to elevate the quality and efficiency of treatment within the gynaecology ward. She further announced that ICU services would be launched at the hospital shortly, alongside plans for a dedicated nursery and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for newborns. These developments are part of the government's phased expansion of healthcare facilities at JPMC to accommodate the growing patient load.

Increased Bed Capacity and Staff Recruitment

The minister noted that the number of beds has been increased to improve service delivery. Additionally, recruitment of medical and paramedical staff is currently underway, with some appointments already finalized. Dr Pechuho acknowledged that legal and procedural delays had previously hindered hiring processes, but assured that efforts are now being made to expedite recruitment to meet healthcare demands.
