Two young friends and a 71-year-old man drowned in separate incidents in Karachi on Sunday while bathing at recreational spots, according to police and rescue officials.
Incident at Sandspit
The first incident occurred near Hut No 15 at Sandspit on Manora Road, where four friends from Pak Colony entered the sea during a picnic. Two of them managed to swim back to shore, while the other two drowned. Edhi Foundation volunteers recovered the bodies from the sea and shifted them to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
The deceased were identified as 18-year-old Saif Qureshi, son of Anwar Qureshi, and 27-year-old Zubair Gul, son of Mahmood Gul. Both were residents of Hasrat Mohani Colony in Pak Colony and were close friends.
Mauripur police duty officer Zulqarnain said the four friends had travelled to Sandspit for a picnic when the incident occurred. After completing legal formalities, police handed over the bodies to the bereaved families.
Incident at Hub Dam
In a separate incident, a 71-year-old man drowned while bathing in a canal near Check Post No 3 at Hub Dam in the Gadap City area. Police and Edhi Foundation volunteers rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident. Rescuers recovered the body and shifted it to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
