KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman stated on Sunday that safe and quality food is a fundamental right of every citizen, and the provincial government is implementing comprehensive measures to ensure the availability of healthy and safe food for the public.
Food Quality Cannot Be Compromised
In his message on World Food Safety Day, the minister declared that there would be no compromise on food quality. He emphasized that action against food adulteration mafias, hoarders, and sellers of substandard food products would be further intensified to protect consumers from unsafe and unhealthy food items.
Mehboob Uz Zaman highlighted that safe food is not only the foundation of a healthy society but also plays a vital role in building a strong economy. He stressed the importance of strict compliance with food safety standards at every stage of the food supply chain, including production, storage, transportation, and distribution.
Collaborative Efforts for Food Safety
The Sindh Food Department, in collaboration with relevant institutions, is actively working to monitor food quality, strengthen food safety mechanisms, and safeguard public health, the minister said. He urged citizens to promote the use of safe and quality food and to immediately report any suspicious or substandard food products to the concerned authorities for timely action.
Mehboob Uz Zaman noted that under the vision of Syed Murad Ali Shah, practical measures are being implemented across the province to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the people. He added that initiatives aimed at strengthening food security, public welfare, and public health are also being pursued in line with the public service agenda of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
World Food Safety Day Observed Globally
Highlighting the significance of the day, the minister said that World Food Safety Day is observed globally on June 7 under the auspices of the United Nations to raise awareness about food safety and public health. He said the day serves as an important reminder of both collective and individual responsibilities towards ensuring food safety and protecting public health.
