British HC Delegation Meets Punjab Home Secretary

A delegation from the British High Commission in Islamabad visited the Punjab Home Department and held a meeting with Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the overall law and order situation in Punjab, professional capacity of security institutions, prevention of human trafficking, use of modern technology, border security, prison reforms, countering violent extremism, narcotics control, and other matters of mutual interest.

Home Secretary Briefs Delegation on Security Initiatives

Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi briefed the delegation on the Punjab Home Department’s initiatives to maintain law and order and promote public welfare. He stated that the Punjab Government is making the province safer through the use of modern technology while strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting peace.

Dr. Qazi informed the delegation that construction of 14 modern inter-provincial border check posts is in its final stages to establish an effective border security system. He also noted that the protection and welfare of vulnerable segments of society remain the top priority of the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Cyber Patrolling and Social Media Monitoring

The Home Secretary highlighted that the Punjab Home Department’s Cyber Patrolling Cell is actively working to curb online incitement and sectarianism on social media. This initiative aims to prevent the spread of extremist content and maintain social harmony in the province.

Rs. 22 Billion Programme for Mosque Imams

Dr. Qazi further said that the Punjab Government is successfully implementing a Rs. 22 billion programme under which mosque Imams receive a monthly honorarium of Rs. 25,000. This programme is part of the government's efforts to support religious leaders and promote moderate narratives.

Prison Reforms and Inmate Rehabilitation

The Home Secretary also highlighted that under the Prison Reforms Agenda, multiple initiatives are being undertaken to rehabilitate inmates by providing them with technical and vocational training. The goal is to enable inmates to become economically self-reliant and productive members of society after their release.

Modernisation of Civil Defence Resilience Corps

Dr. Qazi said that the Civil Defence Resilience Corps has been modernised in line with contemporary requirements. More than 350,000 volunteers have been registered so far, and their training is being conducted in phases. This corps plays a key role in disaster response and community safety.

Centre for Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism

He further informed the delegation that the Centre for Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism is actively working to prevent extremism. Additionally, a comprehensive public awareness campaign is being carried out alongside enforcement measures to combat narcotics.

Dr. Qazi added that the Punjab Home Department is taking effective measures not only for national security but also for the protection and welfare of children.

British Delegation Appreciates Welfare Initiatives

The British High Commission delegation appreciated the Punjab Government’s social welfare initiatives. During the visit, the delegation also reviewed a range of products manufactured by inmates and described the inmate rehabilitation and vocational skills programme as highly commendable.
