Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Thursday that Iran and Oman will jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law. In remarks reported by Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, citing Lebanon's Al Mayadeen TV, Araghchi emphasized that Iran and Oman, as the two nations bordering the strategic waterway, possess the "natural right" to coordinate and make decisions regarding its management.
Decision-Making Process
Araghchi noted that Tehran would engage in discussions with Gulf countries about developments related to the strait, but stressed that ultimate decisions on its administration would be made solely by Iran and Oman. He highlighted that efforts from both sides aim to ensure safe passage for all ships through the strait, adhering to international law.
Communication with Supreme Leader
In the same interview, Araghchi confirmed that communication with Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, remains ongoing. He stated that directives from the Supreme Leader are received "in due time" and implemented precisely. Araghchi also asserted that there is broad national consensus around Iran's leadership and that state affairs are progressing "in a very good direction."
