PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan's Commitment to SAARC on 40th Charter Day
Pakistan Committed to SAARC Principles, Says PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan's steadfast dedication to the foundational principles of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). The premier's message came on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the SAARC Charter Day, observed on December 8, 2025.

A Message of Shared Aspirations

In his official statement marking the milestone, the Prime Minister extended warm greetings to the peoples and governments of all SAARC member-states. He described the day as an auspicious reminder of the collective hopes for peace, progress, and prosperity across South Asia. PM Shehbaz reflected on the organization's original purpose, established over four decades ago, as an essential platform designed to promote dialogue, foster cooperation, and strengthen the bonds between nations.

Overcoming Challenges for Collective Gain

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the core goals of SAARC have, regrettably, remained difficult to achieve, often hindered by political considerations within the region. Despite these hurdles, he commended the SAARC Secretariat for its relentless efforts in providing dedicated assistance and working to advance the organization's objectives. He emphasized that in today's world, the importance of boosting economic, digital, and people-to-people connectivity within South Asia cannot be overstated. "We must work to enhance linkages that facilitate trade, investment, innovation, and cultural exchange in our region," he asserted.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the common challenges that transcend national borders, including poverty, climate-induced disasters, food and energy insecurity, and public health issues. He stressed that these problems demand collective responses built on a foundation of mutual trust, goodwill, and a genuine spirit of cooperation. "It is only by acting together that we can build a resilient and inclusive future for our peoples," the Prime Minister stated.

A Renewed Vision for South Asia

Concluding his message, the leader called for a renewed commitment to the SAARC vision. He urged member states to reaffirm their pledge to work towards a peaceful, stable, and prosperous South Asia. This future, he outlined, should be defined by robust collaboration, seamless connectivity, and a shared vision focused on the collective well-being of all people in the region. Pakistan's position remains clear: genuine cooperation, guided by sovereign equality and mutual respect, holds the key to unlocking South Asia's vast potential.
