Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic have reaffirmed their strong commitment to establishing a strategic partnership, with a particular emphasis on deepening trade, economic, and investment cooperation. This was announced during the official visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to the Kyrgyz Republic from July 6-9, 2026, at the invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov.
High-Level Talks and Joint Statement
According to a joint statement, the two heads of state held extensive and fruitful talks in an atmosphere characterized by traditional friendship, mutual trust, and deep understanding. They noted with immense satisfaction the steady and positive development of Kyrgyz-Pakistani relations. The presidents reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation and underlined the paramount importance of consistent implementation of agreements reached during the Kyrgyz President's state visit to Pakistan in December 2025.
The two sides stressed the need to sustain an active political dialogue, expand official contacts at the highest levels, and strengthen interactions between parliaments, governments, and foreign ministries.
Focus on Trade, Energy, and Investment
Both sides instructed their governments and agencies to intensify joint efforts to implement all agreements and take practical measures to develop robust trade, expand investment activity, and foster closer business ties. They underscored the need to enhance inter-agency cooperation, particularly improving the operational effectiveness of the Kyrgyz-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and its Joint Working Groups.
A major focus was the potential for expanding cooperation in the energy sector, especially through the accelerated implementation of the CASA-1000 Project, which connects Central and South Asia. The two sides also identified mining, agriculture, textile and light industries, the halal industry, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals as key areas for collaboration.
Pharmaceutical and Regulatory Cooperation
In the pharmaceutical sector, they specifically identified medical education, regulatory harmonization, vaccine and biological product manufacturing, and joint ventures as key areas. They agreed to facilitate smoother market access through closer cooperation between drug regulatory authorities. The leaders also agreed to encourage cooperation between regulatory and standards authorities, including in the halal sector, to facilitate trade and promote mutual confidence. They also explored avenues in the digital economy, information and communication technologies, tourism, and the banking sector.
Transport, Logistics, and People-to-People Ties
The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of implementing agreements in transport, logistics, and transit, emphasizing additional measures to increase cargo transportation volumes and create favorable conditions for sustainable transport routes. They also expressed mutual interest in developing cooperation in education, science, culture, tourism, youth exchanges, and medical and public health exchanges, including medical education quality assurance and professional regulatory collaboration.
Security and Counterterrorism Cooperation
On security matters, both countries reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, organized crime, irregular migration, cybercrime, and other threats. Condemning terrorist attacks in the region and beyond, the leaders agreed to work closely at international forums including the UN, SCO, and OIC to combat terrorism in all its forms.
Global Issues and UN Cooperation
The leaders noted that unilateral economic and financial sanctions are contrary to the UN Charter and international law, adversely affecting global food and energy security and hindering Sustainable Development Goals. President Zhaparov expressed gratitude for Pakistan's support for Kyrgyz Republic's candidature as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. President Zardari congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its successful election. The Kyrgyz Republic commended Pakistan's contributions to international peace and security as a non-permanent UNSC member for 2025-2026, welcoming UNSC Resolution 2788 (2025) on peaceful dispute settlement and Resolution 2823 (2026) on accountability for crimes against UN peacekeepers.
Mediation and Regional Stability
The Kyrgyz Republic commended Pakistan's active mediation efforts for peace in the Middle East, welcoming the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Both sides expressed hope that the Islamabad MoU will lay a solid foundation for lasting peace and stability. The leaders emphasized the urgent need for peaceful settlement of disputes and resolution of conflicts through means consistent with the UN Charter, agreeing that a secure environment is necessary for cooperation and connectivity between Central and South Asia.
Invitation to World Nomad Games
The Kyrgyz Republic invited Pakistan to participate in the VI World Nomad Games, to be held from August 31 to September 7, 2026. Pakistan accepted the invitation and confirmed its intention to send a high-level delegation and sports teams. President Zardari expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality and invited President Zhaparov to pay an official visit to Pakistan, which he accepted, with dates to be finalized through diplomatic channels.
