Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have jointly expressed grave concern over the recent escalation between the United States and Iran, despite the earlier signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both nations called on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize dialogue.
Telephonic Consultation Between Foreign Ministers
The remarks were made during a telephonic conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The two leaders exchanged views on the latest regional developments and underscored their shared anxiety over the renewed hostilities.
According to the Foreign Office statement, “The two leaders exchanged views on the recent developments in the region and expressed deep concern over the escalations despite the signing of the Islamabad MoU between the US and Iran in June 2026.”
Shared Commitment to De-escalation
Both ministers agreed that the renewed conflict serves no one’s interest and undermines ongoing efforts toward regional peace and stability. The Saudi foreign minister shared the Kingdom’s perspective on current diplomatic initiatives and emphasized the critical importance of de-escalation and continued dialogue.
The Islamabad MoU, signed in June 2026, had been hailed as a landmark agreement aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. The recent escalation marks a significant setback to those diplomatic achievements.
Call for Restraint
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reiterated their call for all parties to show maximum restraint and to seek peaceful resolutions through diplomatic channels. The Foreign Office statement highlighted that the renewed conflict not only threatens regional security but also jeopardizes broader international stability.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with both the US and Iran engaging in retaliatory actions. The joint stance by Islamabad and Riyadh reflects a coordinated effort to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.
