ISLAMABAD – Pakistan's diplomatic efforts in facilitating the recent understanding between the United States and Iran have received widespread appreciation from key international partners. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a series of high-level engagements with counterparts from Egypt, Japan, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
Conversation with Egypt's Foreign Minister
In a telephone conversation with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Dar discussed regional developments and underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement. The Egyptian foreign minister commended Pakistan's continued mediation efforts and expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic initiatives would contribute to an early understanding between the parties, paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the region, according to the Foreign Office.
During the call, Abdelatty also invited the Pakistani foreign minister to attend the upcoming meeting of the Regional Four (R-4) foreign ministers in Egypt later this month. Dar accepted the invitation, while both sides agreed to remain in close contact on regional and bilateral matters.
Japan's Appreciation
In a separate telephone conversation, Japan's Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive development for regional stability and the wider international community. He conveyed Japan's deep appreciation for Pakistan's sustained mediatory role and constructive engagement throughout the process, acknowledging Islamabad's contribution in helping facilitate the outcome.
The two reaffirmed the importance of continued diplomatic engagement and agreed to maintain regular exchanges to further strengthen bilateral relations and coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Call with Italian Counterpart
Ishaq Dar also received a telephone call from his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. Dar thanked the Italian side, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's appreciation of Pakistan's mediation efforts that facilitated the understanding reached between the United States and Iran.
Both sides stressed the importance of implementing the understandings reached and sustaining international efforts for lasting peace and stability in the region, including in Lebanon. They underlined that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a positive step for global energy flows, trade, and the broader international economy.
Appreciating the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Italy relations, both sides welcomed the recent signing of the agreement on the abolition of visas for diplomatic passport holders between Pakistan and Italy, the FO said. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across all areas of mutual interest and agreed to remain in contact.
Meeting with UK Official
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Hamish Falconer MP, called on Senator Dar in Islamabad. During the meeting, Falconer expressed the United Kingdom's appreciation for Pakistan's constructive diplomatic role in facilitating the US–Iran agreement.
The two sides reviewed the state of Pakistan–UK relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments. Senator Dar reiterated Pakistan's commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the most effective means of achieving durable peace and stability in the region. Both sides also reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing collaboration on issues of mutual interest.
