Small boats with gunmen approach vessels off Yemen

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Wednesday that a vessel was approached by multiple small craft carrying several individuals armed with small arms, approximately 76 nautical miles south of the Yemeni port of Balhaf. The crew was reported to be safe, UKMTO added.

Second Incident Involving a Tanker

In a separate incident, UKMTO stated it received a report of a small craft approaching a tanker operating 85 nautical miles off Balhaf. The crew were also reported to be safe, and the vessel continued on its voyage without further incident.

Context of Maritime Threats in the Region

These incidents highlight ongoing security concerns in the waters off Yemen, where Houthi rebels and other armed groups have previously targeted commercial shipping. The UKMTO, which coordinates maritime security in the region, regularly issues alerts to vessels operating near Yemeni ports.
