Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Inspector General of Police Liaquat Ali Malik has identified fake and misleading news as one of the foremost challenges of the contemporary era, urging the public to verify information before disseminating it. Speaking at a press conference in Muzaffarabad, the AJK police chief highlighted that certain elements are actively spreading false propaganda regarding the regional situation, attempting to deceive the public through inaccurate reports.
Routes Remain Open, Traffic Uninterrupted
Malik categorically refuted claims about the closure of routes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, stating that all entry and exit points are fully operational and traffic continues without any disruption. He emphasized that such assertions are contrary to the facts on the ground.
Technology and Misinformation
The police chief noted that advancements in technology, particularly artificial intelligence, are being exploited to generate misleading content and alternative narratives, thereby exacerbating the spread of misinformation. He stressed the necessity for heightened public awareness and caution when engaging with information circulating on social media and other platforms.
Food Supply Vehicle Allegations Rejected
Malik also dismissed allegations concerning the stopping of a vehicle carrying food supplies, labeling these claims as baseless and lacking evidentiary support. He pointed out that the authenticity of such reports can be easily verified through fact-checking mechanisms.
Call for Responsible Action
Appealing to citizens to act responsibly, the IG urged people to refrain from believing or forwarding unverified information. He advised the public to contact the AJK Police helpline in case of any emergency or difficulty. Malik reaffirmed that law enforcement agencies remain committed to maintaining peace and order, ensuring the dissemination of accurate information, and taking effective action against the spread of false and misleading news.
