The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has extended the physical remand of two suspects, Wasifullah and Muhammad Shafiq, by seven days for their alleged role in facilitating the suicide bombing at Imambargah Khadija-tul-Kubra. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) presented the accused before ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain on Thursday, requesting a 10-day physical remand to complete the investigation.
CTD Seeks Extended Custody
The investigation officer informed the court that the CTD had initially arrested Wasifullah and Muhammad Shafiq in Mardan. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly disclosed their involvement in facilitating the attack on the imambargah. Following permission from the ATC in Mardan, the Islamabad Police took the pair into custody. The prosecution argued that the suspects were involved in planning the suicide attack and providing financial support to the perpetrators.
Court Decision
After hearing the arguments, the ATC judge granted a seven-day extension of the physical remand, allowing the CTD to continue its investigation. The court also directed the authorities to ensure that the suspects are produced again after the remand period expires.
