The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the revised schedule for the delimitation of union councils in Punjab, setting key deadlines for objections and finalization.
Revised Delimitation Timeline
According to the schedule issued by the Election Commission, objections to the delimitation can be filed until July 4. Union councils will then have until July 29 to decide on these objections. August 7 is the last date for informing the decisions of the Punjab Union Councils Constituency Committees.
The final list of constituencies for Punjab Union Councils will be published on August 17, as per the schedule. Following the completion of constituency delimitation, the regular election schedule for local government polls in Punjab will be issued.
Opposition Alliance's Concerns
Meanwhile, the opposition alliance has alleged that police stopped their leaders from traveling to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), raising concerns about political interference. The ECP's delimitation process is seen as a crucial step toward holding local body elections in the province, which have been delayed for several years.
