The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called for resolving political differences through dialogue and supported the postponement of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections until the law and order situation improves, asserting that coercion and violence have no place in politics.
PPP Stance on Political Dialogue and AJK Situation
PPP Parliamentarians Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari stated that political issues should always be addressed through negotiations. He emphasized that action should only be taken against those who create law and order problems. Commenting on recent developments in AJK, Bukhari noted that the AJK government did not have the authority to declare any political group banned. He explained that a reference had been sent to the Supreme Court of AJK, which subsequently declared the Joint Action Committee a banned organization, and that the AJK government had merely implemented the court’s ruling.
Call for Democratic Participation
Bukhari urged the Joint Action Committee to adopt the democratic process by taking part in elections. He said the committee should establish a political party and participate in electoral politics instead of pursuing any other course. The PPP Secretary General reiterated that the party’s leadership had proposed postponing the AJK elections for a limited period due to the prevailing security situation.
Security Concerns and Electoral Process
He stressed that law and order had deteriorated in certain districts of AJK and emphasized that elections should be held once the security situation improved to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process. The opposition alliance has alleged that police stopped leaders from travelling to AJK, further highlighting tensions in the region.
