A tragic incident of double murder over a land dispute occurred in the Chakri area of Rawalpindi on Tuesday, where a father and his son were shot dead while two passing women sustained injuries. The incident took place within the limits of Nasirabad Police Station.
Details of the Incident
According to police officials, the victims, identified as Syed Shahzad Tabassum (father) and Syed Mustafa Shah (son), were returning home after attending a funeral when armed assailants intercepted their vehicle near New Abadi Chakri Road and opened indiscriminate fire. The assailants, including a suspect named Raja Altaf, were traveling in another vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the victims' car.
Eyewitness Account
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers continued firing even as they fled the scene. Two women, including one named Zeenab, who were passing by, were hit by stray bullets and sustained minor injuries. They managed to save themselves by taking cover behind vehicles.
Land Dispute Background
Police revealed that the attackers, led by Raja Altaf, had an ongoing land dispute with the victims. A case had previously been registered against the victims by the same group. The attack appears to have been premeditated, as the assailants were lying in wait for the victims.
Police Response
Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani took immediate notice of the incident and directed the SSP Investigation to visit the crime scene and submit a detailed report. He also ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects. SSP Investigation Raja Nasser Ali Khan visited the site and instructed the SHO of Nasirabad Police Station to collect forensic evidence and ensure swift action against the culprits.
An FIR has been registered, and investigations are underway from all angles. The SSP confirmed that the deceased were a father and son, Shahzad Shah and Mustafa Shah, while the two injured women are out of danger. He assured that the accused would be brought to justice.
