A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) statement released on Wednesday declared that Iranian hostilities are eroding trust and closing avenues for dialogue. The statement emphasized that "aggression does not build relations or serve any understanding or rapprochement." It further warned that Iran's continued aggressive approach would only deepen its isolation, undermining regional stability. However, the council noted that the door to understanding remains open for those who "choose the language of wisdom and good neighborliness."
Solidarity and Security
The GCC reaffirmed its full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, stressing that the security of Gulf states is indivisible. Any attack on one member constitutes an attack on all, the council stated. It condemned Iran's actions and held Tehran responsible for their consequences on regional security, international shipping, and energy supplies. The council called on the international community to hold those responsible accountable and affirmed the right of GCC states to self-defense under international law and the UN Charter.
Ministerial Meeting
The statement came as GCC foreign ministers convened for the 167th session of the GCC Ministerial Council in Manama, Bahrain. The meeting was chaired by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. The council reiterated its commitment to dialogue and good neighborly relations, urging Iran to adopt a constructive approach.
