ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Wednesday that Pakistan desires a permanent end to the US-Iran war to ensure peace in the region. Speaking at the sixth International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, he highlighted Pakistan's mediation efforts, which opened doors for negotiations between the two sides. He expressed confidence that the dialogue would soon lead to sustainable peace without further loss of human lives.
Pakistan's Historic Role
Terming Pakistan's role as historic, the prime minister stated that history would remember these efforts in golden words. He praised Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his role in achieving a ceasefire and initiating talks between the US and Iran. He also lauded Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his contributions to the peace process.
International Support
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the support of China, Turkiye, and other fraternal countries in the peace efforts. He emphasized that Pakistan maintained a balanced and principled stance in the current regional context. The prime minister also highlighted the strengthening of bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia, noting that the defense agreement between the two nations reaffirms Pakistan's commitment to the protection of Harmain Sharifain.
Principled Positions on Palestine and Kashmir
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan's firm stance on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, vowing continued support for the Palestinian and Kashmiri people until they achieve the right to self-determination. He called upon religious scholars to promote unity and harmony within the Ummah, following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). He condemned those who stoke division and perpetrate terrorism, stating they cannot be considered true Muslims.
Deputy Prime Minister's Remarks
Addressing the second session, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar underscored Pakistan's commitment to regional peace and stability. He highlighted sustained diplomatic engagement for de-escalation and dialogue, reaffirming Pakistan's principled stance on Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine. Dar emphasized the importance of Muslim unity, the central role of the OIC, and collective action for the welfare of the Ummah. He also noted Pakistan's leadership in combating Islamophobia globally and promoting interfaith harmony. Paying tribute to Pakistan's resilience, he reflected on the anniversary of 'Marka-e-Haq' and stressed that under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's leadership, peace, progress, and prosperity remain central to the national vision. Dar welcomed the participation of distinguished international and national scholars, highlighting the timeliness of the conference.
