Pakistan Turkiye Cultural Event in Ankara

The Embassy of Pakistan in Ankara, in collaboration with Ankara University, recently organized a cultural and academic event titled “Pakistan Türkiye Relations: Cultural Interaction from Khilafat Movement to Present Day.” The gathering brought together parliamentarians, academics, members of the diplomatic corps, students, and civil society representatives to commemorate the deep historical and cultural bonds between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Key Speakers and Their Remarks

Among the speakers were Ambassador Dr. Yousaf Junaid, Turkish Parliament members Mr. Ali Sahin and Mr. Burhan Kayatürk, Prof. Dr. Irfan Albayrak, Dean of the Faculty of Language, History and Geography, and Prof. Dr. Asuman Belen Özcan, Chairperson of the Urdu Department at Ankara University.

Ambassador Junaid highlighted the deep-rooted and enduring brotherly relations between the two nations, founded on shared history, cultural affinities, and mutual respect. He noted that these ties date back centuries, including the Mughal period in the Subcontinent, recalling that Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, was of Turkic origin. The Ambassador also emphasized linguistic and cultural linkages, pointing out that Urdu derives its name from the Turkish word “Ordu” and shares thousands of common words with Turkish. He acknowledged the role of Ankara University’s Urdu Department in promoting Urdu language and literature and strengthening people-to-people exchanges.

Member of Parliament Ali Sahin shared his student experiences in Pakistan, highlighting the warmth and hospitality of the Pakistani people. He described the friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye as a sacred trust from Allah Almighty, with no parallel in the world. Similarly, MP Burhan Kayatürk reflected on his student days in Pakistan and emphasized the spirit of solidarity and mutual support that has characterized the relationship throughout history.

Academic and Cultural Cooperation

Prof. Dr. Irfan Albayrak underscored the importance of academic cooperation and cultural engagement in strengthening shared heritage. Prof. Dr. Asuman Belen Özcan reaffirmed Ankara University’s commitment to promoting scholarly collaboration and educational exchanges between the two countries.

The event also featured cultural performances by Pakistani students, including poetry recitations, Qawwali, traditional dances, and cultural displays that reflected the richness of Pakistan’s heritage. The audience greatly appreciated these performances.
