Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday praised His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V for his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, stability, and constructive engagement with governments and international partners. The remarks were made during a breakfast meeting hosted by the prime minister in honor of Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on the occasion of his first official visit to Pakistan.
Reaffirming Shared Ideals
Welcoming the visiting dignitary, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to shared ideals and underscored the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). He lauded the network’s significant contributions in various sectors, including rural development, healthcare, education, disaster resilience, climate adaptation, renewable energy, digital skills training, and youth entrepreneurship.
Focus on Northern Regions
The prime minister particularly appreciated the organization’s impactful work in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, especially in remote and vulnerable communities. He encouraged the AKDN to further expand its partnership with Pakistan, particularly in the northern regions where its institutional presence and community outreach are highly valued.
Collaboration with Aga Khan University
Shehbaz Sharif also welcomed enhanced collaboration with Aga Khan University, acknowledging its major contributions to healthcare and higher education. He thanked Prince Rahim Aga Khan V for visiting Pakistan and stated that the country would always remain his second home.
Commemorative Stamp Presentation
During the meeting, the prime minister presented a commemorative stamp issued by Pakistan Post in honor of the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV for his services to Pakistan. In response, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and expressed his desire to continue cooperation with Pakistan in various human development initiatives.
