Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan's determination to defeat enemy designs while pursuing peace, dialogue, and diplomacy for dispute resolution. Speaking at the passing out parade of the 125th midshipmen and 33rd Short Service Commission course at Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi on Saturday morning, he highlighted Pakistan's role as a global peacemaker.
Islamabad MoU and Regional Peace
The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan stands proud as a peacemaker, with its mediation efforts—supported by brotherly countries—leading to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. He noted that the recent visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan reflects strong bilateral ties and Iran's recognition of Pakistan's crucial role in regional peace.
Security Challenges and Foreign Threats
Addressing current security challenges, Shehbaz Sharif accused India of resorting to covert tactics and proxy use after a humiliating setback last year, aiming to undermine Pakistan's peace and stability. He added that Pakistan's armed forces, backed by the nation, continue to confront foreign-sponsored terrorism from the western border in Afghanistan. The Prime Minister also reiterated Pakistan's commitment to the just causes of Kashmiri and Palestinian brethren.
Maritime Security and Navy Strength
Emphasizing maritime security, the Prime Minister affirmed the government's commitment to strengthening the Pakistan Navy as a potent force for national defence and regional stability. He praised the Navy's role during Marka-e-Haq last year, where it successfully deterred a numerically superior adversary. He also commended Operation Mahafiz ul Behr, which ensured uninterrupted flow of critical energy supplies to ports amid a challenging security environment.
Tribute to Naval Heroes and International Cadets
Shehbaz Sharif urged young cadets to uphold the legacy of naval heroes like Commodore S M Anwar, Commander Zafar Muhammad Khan, and Vice Admiral Ahmed Tasneem, whose courage and professionalism brought honour to Pakistan. He expressed delight at seeing cadets from Turkiye, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Djibouti, hoping their experiences at the Naval Academy would foster lasting ties between countries.
